Charge foreign customers and professionals from the European community with a valid intra-community VAT number without having to worry about configuring your store's taxes to get it.

This module is in charge of verifying if your client is a professional with a valid intra-community VAT number to show them the prices of the products without taxes.

For customers without a VAT number or incorrect VAT number, the default taxes will appear.

The module connects to the official website of the European Commission to check if the VAT number of your customers is valid or not.

This module considers the VAT number that is located in the billing address of the online customer.

On a technical level, this module uses the VAT Information Exchange System (VIES) of the European Commission (EC) to verify and validate VAT registration numbers in the EU, using PHP and DragonBe/vies.

To make an intra-community delivery without charging VAT, you must ensure that the person to whom you are delivering the goods is a taxable person in another Member State, and that the goods in question have left or will leave your Member State to another.

On May 25, 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation or GDPR becomes law in all European Member States. This VIES service package is GDPR compliant.

This module uses a VIES package that only interacts with the VAT ID verification service provided by the European Commission. VAT validation is mandatory in European countries and therefore this service is allowed as legality and legal basis. You can read more about this in European DPO-3816.1.

This service does not store any data or collect more information than is strictly required by law and provided by the EC VIES service.
